Resolving the Telework in Government Debate by Focusing on Productivity (GovExec)
The ongoing debate over telework in federal agencies involves differing views from civil servants, Congress, and the Administration. While many federal employees report higher productivity and fewer distractions when working remotely, Congress demands concrete data to validate these claims. The Office of Management and Budget is tasked with balancing these perspectives. It must also address the Administration’s push for a partial return to office work. Many employees and unions continue to resist this effort, and OMB must find a middle ground. Intelliworx CEO Rob Hankey suggests a focus on productivity rather than physical presence to resolve these differences. Read the full post here: Put the telework debate to rest by focusing on productivity (GovExec) * * * Track your telework agreements! We’d be remiss if we didn’t point out that Intelliworx can help federal agencies with digitization of telework agreements, the workflow for review and approval of those, and securely […]

Report proposes well-researched ideas for solving the primary care physician shortage
Independent study suggests exposing residents to the benefits of primary care, working to develop PCP training opportunities and being more receptive to relying on advanced clinicians like NPs and PAs by Intelliworx Primary care may have an outsized impact on the overall health of a population. As the saying goes, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. But there’s more than just an old quip as evidence – there’s data: “Studies have repeatedly shown that having this regular, or usual, source of health care improves patient outcomes and reduces unnecessary utilization of emergency rooms and hospitals.” That’s according to a report and “primary care scorecard” by The Physician’s Foundation and the Milbank Memorial Fund. The report is built on top of a previous study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). The report concludes there’s an acute shortage of primary care providers (PCPs) in […]

Providers identify the top benefits of working in rural healthcare [infographic]
Doctors and advanced practitioners say the lower cost of living, more time with patients and better work-life balance are the most attractive qualities of working in rural healthcare by Intelliworx It’s no secret that rural healthcare faces many challenges including recruiting and retention. The question that stands out is: What can hospital and healthcare leaders do about it? We conducted a short survey of 107 U.S. providers to find out earlier this year. Every online survey is by definition “self-selecting” so we paid an independent research panel to solicit responses to ensure the veracity of responses. Here’s what providers said are the top benefits of working in rural healthcare: 47% said the lower cost of living; 46% said more time with patients; and 45% said better work-life balance. There are additional benefits too that should not be overlooked: 31% said slower pace of rural life; 23% said job security; 17% […]

Modernizing financial disclosure through digital transformation strengthens trust in government (Federal News Network)
Government ethics reviewers are drowning in paper when it comes to financial disclosure, and it’s costing taxpayers. Paper and no-frills digital forms make filing disclosures on time difficult for busy officials. For ethics teams, manually reviewing massive volumes of forms leads to missed details and struggles to meet deadlines. Moving ethics financial disclosure to modern, secure, cloud-based, best-in-breed technology is more than a solid organizational and time-saving idea. Embracing these technologies is essential to preventing future ethical breaches and safeguarding public trust. Read the full post here: Financial disclosure is a deserving target for the government’s digital transformation (Federal News Network)

10 government ethics best practices for conflict review and financial disclosure
These tips can help government ethics offices streamline the processes for ensuring financial disclosure filings are complete, accurate, and on time Every government worker who is in a position to make final decisions or take actions that “will have a direct and substantial economic effect on the interests of any non-federal entity” is required to fill out an annual financial disclosure form. The purpose is simple – to eliminate any conflict of interest – or even the appearance of a potential conflict of interest. Yet not every ethics office navigates the financial disclosure season in the same way. We’ve seen it firsthand working with nearly 40 different government agencies, in recent years, to assist with more than a half million financial disclosure forms. Our experience in this area has given us a good view of which processes work well – and which ones need improvement. Below are a handful of […]

How nursing leaders are tackling recruiting and retention amid burnout and shortages
Survey of nursing managers shows many are leaning on contingency staffing talent to bridge the staffing gap near-term while improving processes and adding tech over the long-term by Intelliworx® Nurses are the backbone of the U.S. healthcare system. Hospitals and clinics around the nation simply could not run without them. This means the role of managing a team of nurses is an important job – and one that seems to be getting harder all the time. A recent survey of nursing leaders by the staffing firm AMN Healthcare illustrates this notion in detail. It’s among the most challenging jobs in healthcare, wrote one nursing leader in response to an open-ended question: “It is one of the most difficult jobs in the entire hospital! You have to be a liaison between nursing, medical services, housekeeping, engineering, grounds, nutrition, social work, physical therapy, finance, supply chain, patients, their families all while keeping […]

Troubleshooting what went wrong with FAFSA – and how to fix it
Digital modernization is harder than it sounds; here’s what we believe went wrong and how we think this could be prevented in the future by Intelliworx® Note: Our intent here isn’t to criticize the government or another solution provider trying to help the government, but to contribute to an important conversation about what happened. Just like an after-action review (AAR) in the military, nobody can solve a problem if we’re all too afraid to talk about the realities in public. To that end, we’ve done our best to describe suggestions in a positive fashion. Intelliworx has helped some 30 federal agencies transform hundreds of government forms. We don’t just turn paper forms into digital copies like PDFs, we transform the whole business process making it better and easier for everyone involved. We have a special interest in education too. This is because we’ve helped the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) […]

Survey: 45% of healthcare providers will refuse a job offer if the recruiting experience is poor
Providers say the most attractive qualities of working in a rural healthcare facility are lower cost of living, more time with patients and better work-life balance by Intelliworx When it comes to recruiting providers, healthcare facilities don’t get a second chance to make a good first impression. That’s one high-level finding of a 5-question snap survey of 107 U.S. healthcare providers we just fielded. This matters because healthcare is already facing a talent shortage. The matter is even more acute in rural facilities because the available talent pool is smaller and shrinking as the Baby Boomer Generation retires. Rural facilities will have to work harder to attract talent. There is room for optimism too though. Providers also shared what they see as the benefits of working for a rural facility. The fact is many providers are attracted to the medical community out of a sense of compassion for humanity. It’s […]

A Porter’s Five Forces Analysis for Provider Talent in Rural Healthcare
Direct competition from urban hospitals is just one factor among many that make up the competitive landscape for provider talent by Intelliworx The renowned economist Michael E. Porter first published his “Five Forces” framework for analyzing competitive markets in the Harvard Business Review (HBR) in 1979. Porter’s Five Forces, provides a sound way to analyze the competitive landscape necessary to develop a winning strategy. The fact that Porter refers to a landscape is telling. Competitors are just one factor in a competitive landscape. Porter realized that competition stems from more than just rival products – but also the actions of customers, partners and even new technology. Perhaps to emphasize this point, Dr. Porter updated the framework in 2008 and republished it in HBR. He also offered this explanation to go along with it: “In essence, the job of the strategist is to understand and cope with competition. Often, however, managers […]
